    Comments, Additional Information, References

Editor's Note: Currently this is a row house, 3 family dwelling, with the addresses 26, 28, and 30. The center cobblestone structure has the address of 28 State St.; however, the references below refer to the original street address of 26 State Street which is the address recorded in the tax records. Also note the various building dates stated by the 3 sources, 1835, 1840, prior to 1852, and 1855.

This small cobblestone Greek Revival house at 26 State St. in Tully was built prior to 1852 by M.T. Tolman. By 1860 it was owned by Ebenezer Bryant; and by C.A. Hodge in 1874. In the 1870s it was a boarding house. Later owners included Carrie Gallinger and the Rev. Timothy Willis. Over the years it has served as the school library, tea room and antique shop. Wings flanking on each side were later additions. It does offer two unusual features: the round oculus in the gable, and the brick sill course at the foundation level. Richard Palmer blog.

The only cobblestone house in the village of Tully is the one at left at 26 State St. The above photo was taken in the early 20th century. The house has been dated at 1835. Many alterations have been made over the years including two wings. An ornate white circle set in the gable facing the street is divided into 10 segments and gives the impression of a clock. In the early 1900s numerous small businesses were located here including a millenary shop in the living room operated by Doris and Grace Willis. For many years it was owned by Mrs. Mary Howard. It has water-washed and field stones. It has also served as a tourist home and boarding house. It is now apartments. Courtesy Onondaga Historical Association.

    Page 90

Editor's Note: Schmidt states the address as 26 Warren Street Route 111 which currently is incorrect. At an intersection in the center of Tulley, four roads meet. North is Warren St., south is State Street, west is Elm Street and east is Clinton Street. The current correct address is 26 State Street State Route 11, south of the intersection. To add to the confusion, the cobblestone structure is the center building of a 3 building row house; therefore, the actual current address may be 28 State St. There are 3 mailboxes in front of the residences.
